Silk is one of the most luxurious fabrics you can wear, but it requires proper care to maintain its luster and longevity. Whether you own our Silk Camisole Top or the Silk Evening Gown, these tips will help you keep your silk pieces looking beautiful.
Washing Silk
Contrary to popular belief, many silk garments can be hand-washed. Use cold water and a gentle, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid wringing — instead, press the water out gently and lay flat to dry. For structured pieces like blazers, always follow the care label and opt for dry cleaning.
Storing Silk
- Store silk garments in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
- Use padded hangers to prevent shoulder bumps
- Avoid plastic bags — silk needs to breathe. Use cotton garment bags instead
- For long-term storage, fold silk with acid-free tissue paper between layers
Removing Wrinkles
Silk wrinkles easily, but it also releases wrinkles easily. Use a steamer on the lowest setting, or iron on the reverse side using a pressing cloth and the silk setting. Never spray water directly on silk — it can cause water spots.
What to Avoid
- Bleach and harsh chemicals — they destroy silk fibers
- Direct sunlight for extended periods — it causes fading
- Perfume and deodorant — apply before putting on silk to avoid stains
- Rough surfaces — silk snags easily on jewelry and rough furniture
